Comparison Activities For Toddlers & Preschoolers
Objectives:
Get to know about comparison, how to compare objects on the basis of their size, their speed, their weight and their quantity.
Note: Comparison plays an important role in everyday life. Also it has a great role in scientific research and mathematics. In kids you have to develop this skill by comparing different objects.
I have written this article exclusively for 2 to 5 years old kids. It takes at least 2 to 3 days for complete understanding of this topic.
Comparison is the fundamental cognitive process. There are various activities that help kids to investigate, to observe, to compare and hence enhance their logical thinking and reasoning capabilities.
For building up mathematics concepts in a preschooler, kindergarten student comparison is an important skill. Once a child is able to identify things, he starts comparison. A preschooler can easily compare few and less candies, differentiate between similar and different colours, a big teddy bear and a small teddy bear, a fast and slow moving object.
For young kids you explain them with the help of size. Like using adjectives big and small. You can also compare between a heavy object and a light object. For comparing quantities we use more and few as well. In mathematics, we use less than and greater than for comparing two numbers. You can also compare on the basis of speed, and use adjectives like fast and slow.
It was a fine day, I was enjoying in a park with my kids. Everyone wants to enjoy such breezy and rainy weather. Kids were playing around. My daughter pointed at a big and huge tree. On this big tree there were lots of small juicy apples. I told them some fruits are big like watermelon, melont, papaya, coconut, pineapple etc. Some fruits are small like berries, grapes, apricots, figs etc.
In the park there were lots of small and big trees. Some trees have more fruits and some have less. There were many swings small and big.
Then, we decided to come back to our home. On the way, we saw big buildings, small houses, big trees and small bushes. We saw many vehicles, some of them were big and heavy and some of them were small and light.
